After his death at the Council, the destruction of most of his home, and his resurrection at the hands of unknown forces, Tyrin seemed all but lost. It was then that Dalkota made himself known and showed Tyrin the powers of the Grove of Wardens. Tyrin gleefully reunited with his friend from his exile in the Ethyrium, and Dalkota couldn't have been happier at seeing Tyrin alive. The two had a history of working well together and quickly hatched a plan to get back the world they had lost. Dalkota took Tyrin back to the Ethyrium to meet with the Gryphon King and plead for aid in the coming war. The King refused and told Dalkota that any problems with his world would have to be solved on his own. So in natural response, Dalkota stole the last functioning Anvil of Embers, a wartime artifact with the power to harness dragonfire and create a Phoenix. With the power to create a new Phoenix Guard, Tyrin traveled in secret across the world, recruiting those with strong hearts and minds to his cause and giving them each a fire of their own. Tyrin wanted every day to run to his mate and tell her of his true fate, but knew that if any word ever got out Agathar would destroy her in search of him. So he kept watch when he could from a distance, watching his two living chicks growing under the hidden care of Syrune. Despite his reluctance to let Ambyra and Nykoru learn the art of killing, he regretfully allowed Syrune to continue, knowing it would at least keep them alive. Just as his regrets were beginning to consume him, Tyrin caught word of someone in the Howls who knew a terrible secret about his family, and he left to investigate.
In the town of Nighthollow, under cover of storm, Tyrin learned the truth of what happened the day of Agathar's attack, and a great lie unraveled before him. Destroyed by the news of what he uncovered, Tyrin grew distant from observing his friends and family, and focused on a way to beat Agathar every minute of the day. This went on for another two years until the friends that had been lost to the Rifts returned to the world with Dalkota's help. Tyrin observed the scattered team to see how much damage their memories had taken, and tried his hardest to locate them all. Eventually he found Finnican by listening through one of the devices Kale had taken from his hollow, and after hearing how they spoke together, he worried for their safety if they were to separate. Dalkota reminded Tyrin of Master Lao in the Land of Blossoms, where Tyrin had gone briefly in search of a new Phoenix to make, and Tyrin agreed that they could use his teachings.
After much planning, the Phoenix Guard was ready for it's first strike against Agathar's forces, an attack on the Wall of Bones. The Wall was a prison set up by the Shades to hold their enemies for interrogation, and often resulted in the death of anyone kept there. Unbeknownst to Tyrin and the Phoenix Guard, their attack could not have come at a better time. Moonpelt, Raiya, Rinka, Syrune, Ambyra, Nykoru, Juryoku, Silence, and several others had all been captured one by one and sent individually to the prison over the past several weeks. Each group plotting their own escapes, none could have predicted the return of the Phoenix Guard to save them all. The prison was destroyed in the end, several members of the group reunited, and Tyrin had claimed his place once again as King. Much of the group didn't even know the others were near, and some left on their own without any such knowledge. Tyrin and the Phoenix Guard left as soon as they appeared, never knowing how close they were to their friends. Dalkota managed to make contact with Tyrin a few days later, calling the Guard back to the Grove and revealing who exactly Tyrin had saved. As they had all split up, Dalkota lost most of the group again, and Tyrin would remain in the dark as well until the group eventually made it to the Grove.
After many ordeals, the three groups had all made their way to the entrance to the Grove of Wardens, and everyone had reunited at long last. Rinka, Kale, Fin, and her ensemble had arrived first, the wolves a few hours later, and finally came Syrune, Ambyra, and Nykoru. At the sight of Syrune, Tyrin went quiet, condemning her in front of everyone for something she had done. Though Syrune begged Tyrin not to speak the words, and begged for a chance to explain herself, Tyrin had already threatened her life. Tyrin already knew the truth. A massive argument would ensue, all once friends turning on one another as things escalated into shouting and a fight threatened to break out. Tyrin says the words out loud for the first time, publicly accusing Syrune of her worst act, and revealing to the group the truth about Ambyra and Nykoru.
Everything Tyrin and Rinka had witnessed about their chicks from the moment the eggs first came till then was a lie, crafted by Syrune out of desperation. Tyrin and Rinka had no chicks of their own, because Syrune was their true mother, and Finnican the father. Tyrin reveals that Syrune had realized she would have chicks during Tyrin's absence in the Ethyrium, and she feared what the group would think if they knew Finnican was the father. Syrune had thought it was impossible for a Phoenix to have chicks with a non-Phoenix, and the terror of what the chicks would hatch into drove her into desperation. Syrune had not been prepared to mother chicks, and knew she would be a horrible parent to them. Everytime she thought about the chicks she grew sick at the thought of the things she had done. She feared that the eggs would hatch into monsters like her, so she fled in the night towards the Howls. In Nighthollow she had laid her eggs and wanted to hide them forever, or get rid of them in fear. Just as she pondered such an act, she made a vow to at least give the chicks a chance. She could not bring herself to kill them, or abandon them with a stranger, but she also knew she could never be the mother they needed. So she returned with the eggs, and her fear led her into the biggest lie of her life. She Glared Finnican first, so he would never know she had left in the night, and covered her trail by Glaring each of the guards in the Council. Then she made her way to Tyrin and Rinka's hollow, and changed their lives forever. She Glared Rinka into believing she, instead, had just laid the eggs, and that her and Tyrin were to be parents. She Glared everyone she could in the Council into believing that Rinka had told them of the eggs, and watched in agony as everyone celebrated. Every time Fin congratulated his sister, Syrune wanted to die. She never told him, or anyone the truth until years later, when Tyrin told everyone in the Grove.
After the massive shock and fighting in the group, Tyrin sent Syrune away, threatening death if she ever returned. Some of the group wanted to go with her, some wanted nothing to do with her at all, some were too shocked even to move. Through several more events, the group would eventually need to work together again to take the fight back to Agathar. Syrune had left those that went after her, and eventually the group was back together without her, and ready to plan. After some time, Kale discovers the source of Agathar's obsessions, and learns of the meaning to the water being drained from the continent. Agathar had been using the water to push soil out of the earth, and had been excavating in the burned lands the past three years in search of some kind of great Gryphon machine. The group goes to find and disable this machine, but after fighting their way in only Kale, Ambyra, Nykoru, and Tyrin make it inside while the others hold off the Shades outside. It is in this cavern below the earth that Tyrin's story finally comes to a close. Tyrin activates the great machine through advice from Kale, and they prepare to use it to send Agathar's forces back into the Ethyrium when the unthinkable happens: The machine takes hold of Tyrin's talon and pins him in place, a wall of light blocking off Kale from the three Phoenix. Ambyra and Nykoru yell for Kale's help, but Kale does not move. This had always been his plan. The machine required the power of the sun to function, but that would take Agathar hundreds of years to accomplish as the machine was buried so deep, so Kale had brought a sun to the machine. Kale, it turns out, had been working with Agathar from the beginning. The world had been so horrible to Kale that he was ready to see it end, and as Tyrin's life-force was drained into the machine, he gave one last look to the hacthlings who were not his, and begged them not to seek revenge on Kale, stating cryptically that Kale may be the only one who could still stop the machine, and to forgive him. The hatchlings didn't seem to agree, and Tyrin grew desperate, knowing that Kale was smart enough to be turned back to their side, and hoping that the bird he had grown to trust was not truly this dark. In in final act, Tyrin sent a frantic message into the machine, desperately trying to reach the guide within Fayru. As the machine was a portal into the Ethyrium, Tyrin hoped his message would be sent into the Rifts, and might reach the Guides. To his luck, he made contact with one, a thousand years in the past. He begged Rose and Lupa to pass his message along to Fayru and the others. To save their world in his absence, they had to forgive Kale. He asked Lupa to tell Finnican, Rinka, all of the others to forgive Kale, and asked her to tell them goodbye without even the time to explain who he was, or from what time he spoke. He passed into the void moments later, praying that his message would work.
